CALL TO WORSHIP

HYMN 138

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Nicaea

INVOCATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, You give us all necessary blessings and gifts in Jesus Christ, enough to live full and meaningful lives. Forgive us for seeking blessings and gifts that have to do with our ambitions, our sense of security. Forgive us for making trust more complicated than it needs to be. Forgive us for assuming that we know Your truth apart from obedience and from patient listening to Your Word. We confess our failure to love wisely and well. Remove from us what we need carry alone no longer, to the end that we might be free to serve, and to be served. We pray in the name of Christ. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

RESPONSIVE READING

Psalm 29:1-9

Leader: Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
People: Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name; worship the Lord in holy splendor.
Leader: The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters.
People: The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Leader: The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
People: He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
Leader: The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
People: The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
Unison: The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!"
